The testimony of a baptisee

On Sunday, we baptised one of our dear Iranian brothers. Yesterday, I posted about precisely what we were doing. You can read that post here. Today, I thought it might be nice to share the testimony Shahin gave as to how he became a Christian. This was a translation that we read on a screen as Shahin spoke in Farsi:

I, first, want to thank the Lord for giving me a chance to share my testimony of how he saved me.

I was born in Tehran, Iran into a Muslim family but not devout. I didn’t think I was sinless but nor did I think I was a sinner. I used to think I was better than other people.

However, one day I met a Christian friend who began to explain Christianity to me. And, as God’s word says in John 8:32: ‘you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free’.

After this, when I saw my previous behaviour, I realised I was guilty and all the things I had done were of sin and I saw how much darkness was in my own heart.

I then started to read the gospel. Unfortunately, at this time, I had to quickly leave my country and came to the UK.

When I got here, I hadn’t repented of my sin nor found salvation. I know I was not a true believer until I came to Bethel Church, where my faith really began.

I came to understand that God sent his only Son to earth to sacrifice himself on the cross for our sin and rise again to save us.

This is why, on the 4th September 2016, I gave my heart to Jesus and I believed in him as my saviour and I was born again.

Since that time, I have started my new life in a good relationship with God and his people. I have started to share the gospel and my faith with others.

I am no longer scared about the future because I know I am going to Heaven. Now I know my Father and he gave me power to share the gospel and work for him.

He gave me a new personality but still I know there are many more things to know about Him, but I know the Holy Spirit with me to guide and help me all the time. As it says in Rom 8:38-39:

‘I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.’
